Street Style, August 2014

Style is alive and well, and living on the streets! Thanks to Instagram and Pinterest, we’re all both fashionistas and judges of fashion now, and street style is flourishing.

From polka dots and monochrome to florals, from animal prints to lace, crochet and eyelets, and from light-as-air kimonos to distressed denim, you can take your pick. But why stress yourself? Try them all. Even denim that’s beyond ripping is being recycled with sewn-on patches.

City chic is white for August 2014, ideal for a slogan tee. Nude’s another hot shade, and street-stylers can’t get enough of it. Slip dresses are on show in the city heat, while maxis look cool with bikini tops. Pencil skirts and girly blouses give off that work vibe, and striped Breton tops are lending a summery feel to full skirts.

As evenings cool, leather bombers and sleeveless biker jackets are emerging from closets, slung over boyfriend shirts. Or go for Saint Laurent’s grunge take on tartan. As for footwear, heels, platforms, mules, trainers and ankle boots are tramping the city streets right now.

OK, so we can’t all be Carrie Bradshaw on the streets of New York, facing the camera, and being paid for it. But we can show off our own style, and who knows who’s watching?!
