What do you do when you have had a song written for you while you’re still a baby? When your dad Scott is a member of the old-school punk band, Unwritten Law? How do you follow that? You become Cailin Russo, model.

Spotted at sixteen in her home area of southern California, and now nineteen, the highlight of the model’s career so far is a modelling assignment for Abercrombie, staying on an island off the East Coast for a week in the summer of 2012. A shoot with Tony Kelly for American Apparel produced one of the world’s most re-blogged photos, and Russo is relishing the attention. She has also worked with photographers Ted Evans, Michael Donovan, Ashley Haber and Bruce Weber, but would love to add Ellen von Unworth to that list.

She has fond memories, too, of a Reef photoshoot in Byron Bay, wearing bathing suits to ride horses, and hanging out in a “wicked mansion” with a surfer crowd, and her boyfriend Luke Davis. The people she meets on shoots are always a plus for her. She maintains that she has met some of her best friends like this, and considers herself “blessed for the people I meet on my travels and jobs”.

Just five feet seven inches tall, Cailin Russo doesn’t see herself as a high fashion model, but is content with success in the commercial and editorial field. Of course, with a musician for a father, it’s not surprising that she loves music, and is attracted to the idea of hearing, rather than seeing, the result for a change. Her impressive voice has already been heard on the chorus of the Super Groupie track, “Say You Want Me”, and she has just co-starred in the video for Justin Bieber’s “All That Matters”. So a move in that direction could be on the cards, with songs already written, and piano lessons in progress.

School isn’t a priority at the moment, as the young Californian feels that she wouldn’t be “very scholarly”; but it’s always there to return to. For now, she prefers to focus her energy “on a creative school”, with a desire to act being another possibility, once she gets those acting classes booked.
