Clara Alonso is a Spanish model with that indefinable quality – we think she has really cool style. We’re knocked out by her gorgeous golden brown hair, and her haunting green eyes. She’s rocking the fashion world right now, as one of Victoria’s Secret angels – in 2008 in Miami, she became the first Spanish model to walk in the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show since 1999, and in fact, only the third Spaniard to ever take part.
Although Alonso was a regular on the Spanish runways, she didn’t work abroad until she had finished her studies. By coincidence, she happened to cross paths with prestigious casting director John Pfeiffer, who has always maintained good working relationships with clients like Victoria’s Secret and Bottega Veneta. Work abroad began to flow in for the 26-year-old. In Florence in 2008, Diane von Furstenberg hired the Spaniard for her Cruise 2008-9 collection, and she was subsequently called to New York for the spring/summer fashion shows, also working for Custo Barcelona when she was there.
Now, the model from Madrid has walked for Bottega Veneta, Luisa Beccaria, Brian Reyes, Nanette Lepore, Oscar de la Renta, Tory Burch, Cynthia Steffe, Luca Luca, Diane von Furstenberg, Lela Rose, Prabal Gurung, Abaeté, and Resort 2009 Diane von Furstenberg. She won the L’Oreal Best Model award at the autumn/winter Cibeles Madrid Fashion Week in 2010, and was named Best Model of 2010 by GQ Spain. Clara became the face for Agua Fresca de Rosas, and appeared in the television ad for the fragrance by Alfonso Domínguez. She has done a lingerie campaign for GUESS, and starred in AX Armani Exchange with her compatriot and Next Model NY stable-mate, Alejandra Alonso.
Clara’s interests include writing, drawing and anything music related – which is lucky, as she’s in a relationship with David Feito from the Spanish rock band El Sueño de Morfeo. We love reading her blog at http://blogs.vogue.es/clara-alonso for updates on what she’s doing and wearing, or for beauty advice and do-it-yourself ideas. For instance, on how she achieves extra thick eyelashes: “I use mascara, and before it gets dry I put loose powder on my lashes, and again mascara”. She’s been writing this blog for two years, and what makes it special for us is her youthful energy, and simplicity of taste.
It’s been said that Clara Alonso has a sultry beauty, suited to modelling lingerie, but we believe that her kind of looks, and her intelligence, give her the potential for a presence beyond the short career of a model.
