Here’s a trend that we love, so we’re glad to report that it’s hanging around for autumn 2014. We approve of its versatility – it can be smart and tailored or loose and accommodating (think layers), in a variety of styles, textures, and of course, colours. So you really have no excuse not to work it into your outfits. Our question to you is: how will you wear it this season?
A deep v-neck over jeans is a staple of every woman’s wardrobe. You can’t go wrong – or can you? If you live in it, you don’t necessarily want to admit that you do, so surprise the world by refreshing it with a statement necklace and a colourful scarf. Stand out with a tropical print bag, or give it a workday look with a knit blazer and hoop earrings. Soften the impression in pastel, and blend with accessories of a different hue. When it’s time for play, stick with the same basics, but this time, dress up with a leather jacket and heels.
Choose neutral for your v-neck, and have fun mixing and matching, or make a statement in a hot shade, but cool it with other items. Top white denim with a pale sweater to impress, or try grey with black skinnies and sneakers. If this is all a bit too sleek for you, disrupt with a fedora, or team with a mini skirt in grid pattern or pinstripes, plus ankle boots. Contrast textures with a leather mini or pants, or co-ordinate shorts, tights, boots and jumper in the same colour, or at least within the same range.
Throw on an oversized sweater with bold stripes, or bat cricket style with a very deep V, strong on thick outline detail, à la Calvin Klein. Pull a deep v-neck over a gingham or plaid shirt, or expose hints of a mostly-concealed tee with a similar neckline. Plump for colour blocks for a more shouty look.
Jessica Alba got the look to perfection, with a slouchy jumper, jeggings, ankle boots, pull-on knit hat, and large bag, all in dark grey, with a silver locket on a chain as the final inspired touch. Whether you go for a chunky finish or exude class in cashmere, we’re sure you have plenty of outfit ideas for your deep v-neck sweater by now.
