Don’t try telling Elyse Taylor that modelling’s an easy occupation! She’ll just get annoyed. The twenty-seven-year-old Australian insists that it’s “not as easy and glamourous” as you think, and that it needs “a great deal of hard work, dedicatiion, emotional balance, and strong will”.
She also thinks that luck comes into it somewhere. Since being discovered at the age of fourteen by a friend’s agent, Chic Models’ owner Ursula Hufnagel, Elyse has hit the runway for Tommy Hilfiger, Trussardi, Bottega Veneta, Moschino and Marc Jacobs. She also walked for Alberta Ferretti, Roberto Cavalli and Dolce and Gabbana, and has worked with David Jones.
She has graced the covers of Vogue in her native country (which she claims was her biggest achievement), and of Elle in Poland and Sweden. She was photographed by Matteo Montanari for Purple Magazine, and became a face of Estée Lauder in 2008. Can all this really be down to luck? We feel that beauty and talent must be in the mix too.
This stunning swimsuit and lingerie model is most well known for her associations with Victoria’s Secret and the Australian fashion brand Kensie. In 2011, she was chosen as the face of surf brand O’Neill, which meant that as its ambassador, she was involved in judging the O’Neill Model Search.
Life for the blue-eyed blond changed a lot when she moved from Sydney to New York. It was a lot to take on, especially for someone who points to her mother as her biggest inspiration. Flying to shoots doesn’t leave much free time, but when she has some, she jets off to her home country, complaining that she misses the Aussie lifestyle. “New York is such a workaholic city, it’s hard to find the time to relax”, she says.
She appreciates the fun aspects of her job, however, and especially enjoys the Victoria’s Secret shows, where she can meet up with friends such as Adriana Lima. She feels like part of a family that’s having a good time. Travelling can be unkind to the skin, so Elyse uses hydrating balm for her face, eyes and lips, and prefers a tinted moisturiser to foundation. Exfoliating skin pads are another must.
Her biggest stroke of luck so far, we’re sure she’ll agree, is the pregnancy that she and her partner Seth Campbell, founder of Upper Echelon Shoes, announced in September 2013. We can’t wait to see if the little one will take after its mother, but in the meantime, congratulations are in order!
