Summer 2014 sees the return of one of the most flattering of fashion trends: the full skirt. Ideally suited to all lengths, a short full skirt gives you a cheeky bounce as you walk, whilst a longer length swirls beautifully to give a great sense of movement. Fabrics for this season are focused on chiffon and lace frills in frothy layers, silky satins, and innovative prints.
A full mini-skirt is a style essential for your wardrobe this summer. A gathered chiffon skirt overlaying a satin under-layer, or even mini shorts, gives you a wonderful chance to show off your summer legs. A wide waistband, perhaps with an over-sized satin bow detail, merely emphasises the appeal. Try a lacy skirt, with scalloped hem outline revealing a satin underskirt, and finished with a fancy elasticated waistband. Or for a less flounced effect, choose a suedette full mini-skirt with punched broderie anglais border at the hem, and with a narrow belt over a wide waistband.
Mid-length skirts are also a popular choice. Select a zig-zag print, with soft pleats and a narrow belt to give emphasis to your waistline, teamed with a scoop neck stretch tee and strappy sandals for the perfect summer outfit. Or make an eye-catching statement with a bold geometric print version in a contemporary colour combination, worn with a softly tailored blouse and long boots for dressed-down formality. And for a gorgeously luxurious look, opt for a version in close-gathered pleats and wide waistband, together with a bolero-style leather jacket over a tight short crop-top to reveal your midriff.
But the full skirt design really comes into its own with a tea length version. There is so much choice with your overall look here, such as a skirt with multiple chiffon layers giving fabulous body, and wide waistband to accent your waist, looking great with a skinny crop-top in bold stripes and delicate sandals. Striking modern print skirts featuring repeating circles or checks give a totally different air, and look stunningly attractive worn with a plain long-sleeved top or lacy tunic and flat pumps. Or combine patterned lace with smooth satin, and a scoop hemline that almost sweeps the floor at the back, worn with a Chinese-inspired tailored tunic top and pointed shoes.
So whether you need office wear, casual wear or evening wear, you are sure to find the ideal full skirt to fit the bill this summer.
