Hailing from Brisbane, Australia, Georges Antoni is a highly respected photographer known for shooting the Sydney Harbour Bridge in Harper’s Bazaar and for his work in Vogue, including the 50th anniversary of the Australian edition. We love his erotic imagery, which is always tasteful and classy, while managing to tell a unique story through intricate details or more elaborate staging. His lighting is vivid, frequently in black and white, and he makes images that jump off the page.
Georges Antoni actually studied Commerce and Law at university before taking jobs in the corporate world of Coca-Cola and PricewaterhouseCoopers. Following the failure of a chain of health food shops he had started, he made the decision to become a full-time photographer. This was a brave decision to make and we are glad he choose to share his photography with the world. His background may also be influential in his ability to deal with the commercial aspect of the industry, allowing him to work with many iconic print publications and even direct television commercials.
While Georges Antoni can be critical of his work – wryly commenting that his ultimate goal is to take an image that he actually likes – we feel that he is in the upper echelons of photographers working today. He has the ability to bring out deep emotions from a model which is a challenge for any photographer, regardless of experience. His photography walks a fine line between the showy and the simple, meaning that you will not forget one of this images after you have seen it.
