We’re assuming that if you follow Just the Design, safe fashion is not your kind of thing. Well, it’s not hard to guess, really, is it? You’ll be seeking something to make your outfit a little special, with perhaps unique touches that are yours alone. We can reveal here that embellishing is the answer to your quest.
From belts, through full-on biker gear by way of sweaters to boots, there’s something studded out there for you. Get a hint of grunge with a metal-embellished plaid shirt, or go back to punk (which has never really left us, anyway) for safety pins and the like. For more retro, go boho with beads and fringes.
Don’t hold back on bags, whether it’s a Stella McCartney clutch, a more ethnic style, or a result of your own imagination – let loose your inner designer, and embellish to your heart’s content. Beanies are what we need as temperatures drop, so get some fun from yours. Add a motif, or brighten with crystals or fake gems. Alternatively, go more rock’n’roll with studs. If hard-core metalwork is too much for you, look for decorated hair bands, bracelets, and the like.
Showcase embellished tops with plain cardigans and skinnies. Heavier fabric such as denim can rock adornments, so don’t be timid. Strong embroidery is just one example of what you can add yourself. For a smarter feel, match studded detail on jeans with the same on tops.
We love the fact that the word sequin derives from the Venetian dialect term for a small coin. They might not have been high value then, but they will lift a garment like nothing else does, and you could even sew your own. Look to them for your party season crop top, or cover a midi skirt for a quite stunning effect. Embrace the graphics trend with a sequinned motif on a coloured tee or denim jacket.
Crystals come in varied forms from snowflakes to table salt, and with some pretty mystical claims. We know nothing of that, but we can assure you that they’ll add sparkle to your jumpers and skirts, and do something magical to pleats. Add to a collar, and they’ll take the place of that expensive necklace you wisely didn’t buy.
If you’re a crafty type, you can use your creativity to customise your outfits, but for the rest of you, there’s plenty out there to help you add a personal touch to your clothes.
