Oversized outerwear is just right for all you layer-lovers out there, and a blazer with space between it and your body is ideal for the winter months. How can you style it for winter 2014, without harking back too much to the boyfriend jacket that it partly is, minus shoulder pads of course?
Embrace chic by matching the colour of your blazer with the rest of your outfit, a natural marriage for neutrals such as cool grey or warm peach, especially effective if you blend shades. Try the jacket with a midi and a tucked-in silk blouse, or pile boho upon chic with a bright maxi dress. Wear white with pastels, or pair with ripped jeans for a contrast of styles. Take note of the cream oversize blazer and matching slouchy trousers loved by Hermès, who pared back on layers and showed a little skin.
Conversely, go for a bold colour above dark skinnies or skirt, and offset with chunky jewellery and sunglasses. Throw a denim oversized blazer over shorts, pleated mini skirt or jeans, slip on black ankle boots, and top with a navy fedora. Reduce the outsize feel with a belt around the waist for a change.
Keep it casual with a slouchy blazer over a Breton, and add a tartan scarf. Warmth comes with textures, and a pattern in herringbone or houndstooth, for example. Make at least one item fitted or tailored, and mix in a demure blouse with Peter Pan collar. Introduce a contrasting collar (à la Helmut Lang) by way of colour or fabric, and showcase the lining by folding over your cuffs.
Take matters further (literally) with the long blazer-dress. Cameron Diaz teamed hers with shorts, but you could substitute a mini, either skirt or dress. Also for evenings, dress the part in a tuxedo-type blazer and chiffon dress.
Wear an oversized blazer over a branded tee or a crop knit, and still have room for that fuzzy jumper. Frame a floral dress or reptile print with a plain jacket, or flip that with a blazer in a grid pattern, pinstripe, animal print or tropical design, over a plain top and jeans.
The oversized blazer trend is more than a trip back to the eighties, so don’t just raid the wardrobe of the nearest male. It’s back for 2014, and it’s had a makeover. We’re confident that you’ll know how to deal with that.

Go for a more androgynous style like Victoria Tornegren and wear your over the knee boots with jeans and an oversized vintage blazer. Not only is this look totally in, but it is also great for both work and going out.
