A faux fur vest is the answer to your dreams if you love layers. And who doesn’t lust after them, at this time of year? It’s just the best way to keep snug while allowing for free movement (and a chance to show off nice sleeves, of course). Adapt it for dressing-up occasions, slob around in it over the weekend, and – well, just generally live in it, we think.
Team it with boyfriend jeans or any other kind, ripped or not, with skinnies, leather leggings, cropped pants and even shorts. Add tights to the latter, or to a skater skirt. Get the bohemian vibe with a faux fur vest over a maxi skirt and floppy hat, accessorised with slouchy scarf and oversize bag. Or why not go fully retro with flares and platforms?
Throw it over a graphic tee, a Breton, or a plaid shirt. In fact, your furry vest will rock any kind of blouse, whether it’s chambray, houndstooth or classic white, and will prepare it (and you) for the rigours of the working week. Or pair it with a pencil skirt, heels and a tailored top for those office hours.
Your faux fur vest will have its dressy moments, too, if you wear it over a sweater dress or your favourite little black number (every woman has one of these). Gain evening elegance with a black or white version over a floaty ensemble, embellished with classy jewellery.
If you’re into double denim, break it up with a brown vest, and apply the same principle to monochrome or total black as well. Before we become too dull, let’s consider faux fur against some bright colours – red would be spectacular, but let your imagination work on this one.
For extra warmth, pull it over a cardigan – either chunky or tailored will do the job. Or use an oversize jumper instead, couple with leather pants, and top with a fedora. For footwear, think heels or over-the-knee boots, or substitute boldly-coloured shoes to provide a perfect foil.
Grab a truly individual look by placing it under or over a leather jacket. Generally, length can vary, depending on your outfit. Hit the street with a cropped vest over layers and a mini, or stick to trousers if you’re sporting a longer faux fur. Wear it short, wear it long, but whatever you do, don’t take it off until spring!
