A dictionary will tell you that neutral has no positive characters or features. We wish to challenge that! Used together or for contrast, neutrals are essential to your wardrobe.
For instance, match a beige cashmere sweater to gloves, scarf and beanie, and introduce paler stripes for an even cooler effect. Turn heads in a white outfit paired with platforms, but break it up with a bright clutch for maximum stares. Pair a cream quilted jacket with a blush pink skirt, or blend blocks of neutrals on a shift.
Allow a floral print frock to peep coyly from under a white cape, and go further with snowy sneakers, but warm up proceedings with orange or brown platform soles. Mix dark beige and cream with light grey, or throw on a camel coat with a lighter collar, and accessorise with ivory. For more definition, substitute black or nutmeg for the bag and footwear.
Stun anyone who’s looking when you step out in a long cream dress under a nude maxi coat. Go totally neutral for dress, heels and clutch, but shatter the soft aura with some statement sunglasses from Dolce & Gabbana. Pair a cream faux fur jacket with a brown leather mini, or drag a chocolate wool blend over a camel turtleneck.
Take a tip from Hugo Boss, and use a narrow nude belt to cinch a cream mini dress, and complete it with gladiator sandals. Accentuate the waist again with other outfits, or use a belt to tame an oversized reversible scarf in two of our key colours.
Get away from our favourite colour for denim – blue, in case you’re wondering, although we’re sure you’re not – with white skinnies enhanced by a slouchy beige top, olive hat, and last but by no means least, cut-out tan platform shoes. Adorn a camel double-breasted pea coat with dark buttons, and a brown collar in faux-fur, velvet or leather.
Felt fedoras are a natural here – drape them with a dark band or ribbon, or a leopard-print scarf. Team with a trench in taupe or camel, tied with a tan belt. On days when you insist on colour in your life, calm yourself with nails daubed nude or off-white
However you style your neutrals, oozing chic is a cert. Work your look for formal day and work wear, but shift effortlessly to evening with the addition of a gold necklace and a pair of shiny nude heels. You just can’t go wrong!
