Short shorts are the essential wardrobe item for 2014, but there are a million ways to wear them. Mini-shorts are the perfect outfit for summer weather, whether you are looking for dressed-down casual or something more tailored.
Classic denim hot-pant shorts are a must-have this summer, but there is a fabulous choice of style to suit your every mood. Distressed denim is big, with such features as frayed hemlines, zip or button closures, and turn-up hems. Some designs also have additional features including lace motifs and frilled hems. Denim shorts can be worn with or without belt, and are the ultimate in versatility, looking great with with a loose-fitting blouse, a skimpy crop-top, a classic tee or matching denim jacket.
For something a little out of the ordinary, try a black cheesecloth pair, teamed with a paisley print shirt featuring blouson sleeves and button loop closure for a gypsy-style ambience. Chiffon leopard print shorts, worn with plain black vest top and jewelled flip-flops, make a wonderful outfit for an evening out, whilst a striped version with drawstring waist and turn-up hem, worn with loose tee and mules, makes quintessential beach wear. And for a feminine touch, choose shorts in a rich floral print with narrow waist belt – perfect with little crop top or vest top.
But short shorts look just as fabulous with upmarket tailoring for more formal appeal. Try a pair of white tailored shorts with a hint of culottes style, teamed with a white lace cutout blouse fitted with upper mesh panel. Overlaid with a tailored jacket with scooped hemline, and high heel ankle-strap sandals, this creates an outfit that is the essence of summer cool.
You could opt for white tailored shorts in a sparse paisley print, worn with feminine chiffon blouse with neck bow, together with a Chinese-inspired boxy jacket with matching paisley pattern and border print with scarlet highlights. Or perhaps a pair in navy chiffon with mini-floral print with narrow bootstrap belt. These look wonderful when teamed with loose-fitting cream chiffon blouse with long sleeves and strappy sandals. And chequered monochrome shorts worn with a dark V-neck sleeveless top, and casual delicate pink blazer with concealed pockets and long sleeves makes a beautiful ensemble for any occasion.
With so many variations on a theme, you will have no problem finding the right way to wear short shorts that is unique for you.
