We Are Seeing A Lot Of Colorful Coats | Outfits And Ideas

So – hello winter. We don’t know how you feel about that, but unless you’re a particularly cheerful soul (which we would prefer that you are, of course), we’re guessing that you experience days when the winter blues swirl around you like mist and rain. Now is the time to boost your spirits, and as outer layers are essential at this time of year, we advise you to defy the early excesses of 2015 in a colourful coat or two.

If it offers warmth too, then so much the better, so look for wool, like the green trench style from Michael Kors. Widen your choice with quilted, padded, textured or faux-fur (check out Rihanna in baby pink). Frame with a faux-fur collar of the same shade, or team with an exquisite cashmere scarf, and hide under a fur-lined hood.

Solange Knowles embraced colour blocking over a neutral trouser suit, while Victoria Beckham stuck out for originality in her sleeveless yellow trench. Match an orange peacoat to a crepe dress, with accessories in nude or black patent, and top with an oversized felt bowler. Camel will rock for you as a pal of pallid hues, bold pops and animal prints.

Connect to the season’s wan light with pastels, but introduce depth by way of dark trims for pockets, cuffs and so on, or offset grey with an outsize contrasting collar in pink, blue or lemon. Accessorise powder blue with navy, and define the look with ripped jeans and trainers, or allow your Breton top a peek through cropped sleeves.

Add gravitas to oversized outerwear of any colour with a pale lacy dress and embellished clutch, or belt it for shape and wear with an outsize collar. Alternatively, opt for a tailored finish in green from Burberry Prorsum. Consider a wrap coat, or button up like Diane von Furstenburg inside a double-breasted version.

Pair a primary shade duffel with torn skinnies, or team red with black leather pants or soft blue denim. Throw vibrant yellow over a print dress, or drag a bold colour over a black and white print blouse. Carry a royal blue clutch with a lime green topper, or marry hot pink with pale.

Seize any colour of the rainbow and make it your own. Your colourful winter coat will brighten the streets long after Christmas lights are dimmed, and remember – the days are getting longer again, so you have more fashion time outdoors.
